Academic OBGYN Hospitalist

About the Postion 

  • Hospitalists work rotating day, night, and 24-hr weekend shifts
  • Candidates must have strong interest and skill in team-based obstetrical care, health care policy for provision of obstetrical care, and high motivation for innovative resident and medical student education.
  • Prior practice experience in an academic setting preferred.
  • Candidate must be comfortable with management of medically complex high-risk pregnancies and advanced obstetrical surgery.
  • Must possess the ability to manage gynecological and Ob/Gyn traumatic surgical emergencies.
  • Must be board-certified/board-eligible OB/Gyn physicians

About the OBGYN Department 

  • 31 board-certified physicians representing all OB/Gyn specialties providing care to a rich patient mix
  • 24 OB/Gyn residents and home to the Charlotte campus of UNC–Chapel Hill medical student education
  • Team is comprised of 6 academic generalists and 3 hospitalists to guide development of system standards for intrapartum care and to educate, supervise and provide direct care for patients in a practice that includes Family Medicine, Obstetrics, and Maternal Fetal Medicine.

  • Medical Education oversees 303 residents and fellows
  • Resources to care for women with high-risk pregnancies include medical and surgical intensive care units, interventional radiology, pediatric surgery, pediatric cardiology, and a high-risk antepartum unit.
  • The staff of the 85 bed neonatal intensive care unit offers comprehensive neonatal care for more than 1,000 infants/year.
  • In 2016, there were over 7,400 deliveries, 40% categorized as high-risk.
