Overview

The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) is recruiting to fill several Psychiatrist opportunities, to include Adult Psychiatry, Geropsychiatry, Emergency Department / Consult Liaison, Women's Health, Homeless Patient Aligned Care Team, Tele-Psychiatry, & Mental Health), with possible assignment locations possible at West Los Angeles (WLA) Medical Center, Ambulatory Care Centers in Sepulveda and Los Angeles (Downtown) Campuses, or at our Los Anglees and Northern / Coastal Community Based Outpatient (CBOC) Clinics in Gardena, Bakersfield and Lancaster. 

The VAGLAHS is the largest integrated healthcare organization in the Department of Veterans Affairs. It is a a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 1a facility serving Veterans throughout Kern, Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.  Outpatient clinics are located in: Gardena, San Gabriel, San Luis Obispo, East Los Angeles, Lancaster, Oxnard, Santa Maria, and Santa Barbara. VAGLAHS directs the Department of Veterans Affairs’ largest educational enterprise and serves as a major training site for medical residencies sponsored by the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and USC School of Medicine and Advanced Practice Nursing Programs sponsored by local universities. Over 500 University residents, interns, and students are trained at VAGLAHS each year, and the institution sponsors 16 medical residencies and numerous associated health residencies in dentistry, podiatry, optometry, pharmacy, clinical psychology and dietetics. 

Work Schedule:  Multiple schedules, Full-Time and Part-Time available depending on location. Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

These positions are located within the Greater Los Angeles Health Care System catchment area. As a Psychiatrist, you will work on a multidisciplinary team, including primary care, to provide coordinated, integrated, rehabilitative and restorative mental health care, with the goal of helping eligible Veterans achieve and maintain the highest level of functioning and independence. Major duties and responsibilities include: Diagnoses and treats a wide variety of severe mental and substance use disorders and uses recovery-oriented principles; Teaches a variety of trainees and must be eligible for a faculty appointment; Provides clinical services in a virtual modality, including video telehealth, patient/provider secure messaging, telephone visits, and remote review of electronically forwarded medical records.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree (MD/DO)
  • Current, full and unrestricted U.S. license to practice medicine or surgery 
  • Completion of residency training, leading to Board Certification (BC) or Board Eligibility (BE) in Psychiatry.

Preferred Experience: Board certification in Psychiatry

Required Fellowship Training:  For the Psychiatrists assigned to Emergency Department and Consult Liaison Position, applicants should have graduated from fellowship in C/L Psychiatry-Psychosomatic Medicine and be specialty board eligible or certified.

VAGLAHS is also affiliated with local universities and trains students in allied health professions including nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, social work, and psychology.
