Overview
Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) are searching for a board-eligible or board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric urologist to join our growing Section of Urology. The Section of Urology is expanding the academic and clinical urological missions in Southwest Virginia with the stated goal of evolving to an independent department and establishing a urology residency training program. The Carilion Clinic adult and pediatric urology programs were both founded in 2023. Prior to 2023, pediatric urology did not exist in Southwest Virginia.
The pediatric urology team at Carilion Clinic and VTCSOM is comprised of a surgeon, a physician assistant/associate (PA), and a dedicated nurse, medical assistant, and administrative coordinator. The program primarily sees patients at the Carilion Children’s Tanglewood Center, a multi-specialty outpatient pediatric clinic with 17 specialties, child life specialists, and a lab. The surgeon and PA operate primarily at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH), which has 24 pediatric inpatient beds, 8 Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) beds, and 60 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds. The team also operates at an ambulatory surgery center (Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital) and satellite operating room (Carilion New River Valley Medical Center). The program is expanding services to two additional satellite clinics (Carilion New River Valley Medical Center and Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital) and one additional operating room location (Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital) in the region. Pediatric urology has a complete video urodynamics program and access to da Vinci Xi and SP robotic surgery platforms.
